Who we are
Unlure is an app for Windows and Android that blocks adult websites, and this is the website where you buy it and manage your devices. In this policy, "Unlure", "we" and "us" mean the people who make it.
This policy explains what information the app and the website handle. It is written to be read in full. If something is unclear, see the contact section at the end.
What stays on your PC
To work, Unlure keeps a small amount of information in C:\ProgramData\Unlure on your PC:
- Your settings: which filters are on and how long the waiting period is.
- The sites you have added to your own block list.
- Changes you have asked for that are still waiting, with their unlock codes.
- Two counts: how many address lookups Unlure has answered and how many it has blocked.
- The link to your account, and when your paid time runs out.
- A technical log of events such as starting up or putting back a changed setting. It does not list the sites you visit.
Anyone with an account on the PC can read this folder. Only an administrator can change it. Uninstalling Unlure deletes it.
What leaves your PC
Every website starts with an address lookup, where your PC asks for the address that belongs to a site name. Unlure answers these lookups itself. When a name is on our list, it is blocked on your PC and nothing is sent anywhere.
When a name is not on our list, Unlure asks a family-safe DNS service for the address, which also catches adult sites our list does not have yet. We use OpenDNS FamilyShield, run by Cisco, and Cloudflare for Families if OpenDNS cannot be reached. While protection is turned off, names those services would block are looked up with Cloudflare's and Google's public DNS instead.
These services receive the site name and your PC's public internet address, the same information your internet provider's DNS service receives when Unlure is not installed. Their own privacy policies apply to what they do with it. They do not receive anything from inside the pages you visit.
Apart from these lookups, the Unlure app connects only to this website, to check in with your account as described below. It does not check for updates.
Phones, Macs and routers
On iPhone, iPad and Mac, the Unlure profile tells the device to send its address lookups to OpenDNS FamilyShield over an encrypted connection. On a router, the DNS servers we suggest are OpenDNS FamilyShield's.
In each case, that service receives the site names the device looks up and its public internet address, and its own privacy policy applies. None of these set-ups sends anything to us.
If you add an iPhone, iPad or Mac on your dashboard, we keep the name you gave it, the password that removes its profile, and when the profile was last downloaded. The password is shown to you only after the waiting period. A profile cannot report back, so we never learn anything else about the device.
The Android app
The Android app works like the Windows app. Android shows it as a VPN, but only the phone's address lookups pass through it; every other connection goes out as normal, and the app never sees what is inside the pages or apps you use.
It keeps the same information as the Windows app, in the app's private storage on the phone: your settings, your own block list, the two counts and its account token. It keeps no log of the sites you visit. Uninstalling the app deletes it.
Names that are not on our list are checked with the same family-safe DNS services as on Windows. The phone reports the same things a PC does, plus the phone's make and model as its name, and how locked it is (whether Unlure can be uninstalled).
Accounts and the dashboard
Unlure needs an account on this website. The pack you buy is kept with it, each PC or Android phone protects while it is linked to it, and the dashboard shows them all in one place.
When you create an account we keep your email address. Your password is handled by Google's Firebase Authentication and we never see it.
For each PC or phone you link, the Unlure app checks in every couple of minutes and reports:
- The device's name and the Unlure version it runs.
- Whether protection is on, which filters are on, and the waiting period.
- The sites you added to your own block list.
- Changes that are waiting, and when they will be ready. Never their unlock codes.
- The two counts: lookups answered and lookups blocked.
- When it last reported.
While a device is linked, its filters, blocked sites and waiting period are managed from the dashboard. Changes you make there, and the unlock codes for changes that are waiting, are kept with your account until they are used, cancelled or lapse.
This is stored with Google Firebase. Removing a device on the dashboard deletes what it reported, and the device stops reporting. To delete your account entirely, contact us using the details at the end of this policy.
Payments
Packs are sold by Dodo Payments, which acts as the merchant of record: it takes the payment, handles the tax and emails your receipt. You enter your card or UPI details on Dodo's payment page. We never see them.
To start a payment we send Dodo your account's email address and an internal account number, so the payment can be matched to your account. When it goes through, Dodo tells us its payment number, the pack, the amount and currency, and the time. We keep that record with your account, along with the dates your paid time runs, and keep payment records for as long as tax and accounting rules require.
What Dodo keeps about you is covered by Dodo's own privacy policy.
What we never collect
The Unlure app reports only what is listed above. We never see or collect:
- The sites you visit or try to visit.
- Screenshots, page contents, messages or anything you type.
- Your contacts, photos, location or the list of apps you use.
- How often you use your PC or phone, or when.
- Your card number, UPI ID or bank details.
This website
This website does not use cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind. Its fonts are served from this site, so visiting it does not contact font services.
The website is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel records standard technical information about each visit, such as your internet address, browser type and the time of the request, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. The apps are downloaded from GitHub, which records the same kind of information when you download them, and the payment page is run by Dodo Payments. Their own privacy policies apply to that information.
Children
Unlure is meant for adults managing their own PC. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. A parent or guardian who installs Unlure on a family PC is responsible for doing so with the knowledge of the people who use it.
Your choices
You can remove any device from your dashboard at any time, which deletes what it reported, and uninstalling Unlure removes what it kept on the device. We will delete your account and everything linked to it when you ask, except payment records we must keep for tax and accounting.
You can avoid the family-safe DNS services described above only by turning Unlure off, since checking site names is how it works.
Changes to this policy
If Unlure starts handling information differently, we will update this policy first and change the date at the top. A change that collects more information will be described on this page before it takes effect.
